Since 2009, I have noticed a great uptick in movies and television shows that have horror/gore themes. I think I first really noticed this trend with the release of Zombieland. While finding zombies/supernatural creatures and violence in movies is no surprise, the amount coming to cable television is on the rise. For the past 5 years shows like Criminal Minds have brought the horrors of murdering psychopaths to television audiences nationwide. In recent years though, this trend has now brought us programs like AMC’s The Walking Dead and FX’s American Horror Story. What does this mean for horror buffs? A new medium of entertainment for their now unlimited favorite genre. Perhaps in the next few years we’ll find a few more programs like The Walking Dead and American Horror Story on our television screens. Or at least, their continuation by their respective networks.
